I celebrated my 25th birthday with my best friends in the best place, Cherating. A road trip on the East Coast, along Federal Route 3 existed in my bucket list for years after hearing stories about its beauty and serenity. Also Cherating is well-known for its beaches and beauty. To sum it up, best friends, beach, good weather, good food and the sea breeze made my birthday incredible.

I highly recommend that you stay at Casa Titik if you're thinking about staying in a homestay. It's beyond awesome. The architecture is a modern European slash garden style, with white walls and wooden furniture, clean and neat lawn. The beds were incredibly cozy and comfortable. We almost couldn't drag our butts off the beds. We were so perfectly relaxed here.

Not only the bedroom was great, the beds were soft and fluffy, it has a beyond picturesque view. In the photos below you'll see a black metal gate, leading to a quiet beach behind the homestay. Nobody was there on the beach, seriously, Occasionally there were one or two couples from the homestay strolling romantically on the beach, but most of the time we ruled it. We could do whatever we want and took whatever photos we wanted. Oh well.

There is a recreation room on the ground floor in Casa Titik, where we spent the first night playing snooker and had a small karaoke session with the not-so-bad-at-all karaoke set. This vacation defines chilling to its best. All stress and pain and sorrows, we dumped them on the highway already.

If you are thinking of coming to Cherating, besides staying at Casa Titik, here's some of my suggestions to you:

Hafiz's Cherating Activities: Watch the fireflies fly to you. Hafiz is an extremely enthusiastic fireflies expert who can communicate with the fireflies. Choose a session of either 7.30pm or 8.30pm, if possible call in advance to book. I heard the 7.30pm session is better as you can see more fireflies. Head down to their place, pay RM25, wear a life jacket, you'll be brought on a boat to look at the fireflies. I heard Initially there weren't many, thanks to their special communication techniques, you'll see more fireflies blinking, coming towards you. What makes it even more special was the briefing session by Hafiz himself, where you'll learn more about these precious little creatures. I'd seen fireflies in Kuala Selangor but nobody bothered to explain what was happening so it was less meaningful. Hafiz added an educational value and purpose to his fireflies watching activity, so I thought it was great. The activity is cancelled if it's raining heavily, which occurred to us on the first night. We made it on the second night. Good luck! Their Facebook

Dinner: Eat at the stall opposite Hafiz's Cherating Activities. Order their Portuguese grilled fish and seafood. It's way better than Duyong Seafood Restaurant, which is also a popular tourist restaurant there but expensive and bland.

Head to Kemaman and Kemasik. I'll share some of the photos on the blog soon.
Cherating
I brought a new travel companion with me to Cherating - a white ukulele given to me by my awesome girlfriends for my birthday. It's such a surprise I've been wanting it!!!

I'm 25 years old now. The biggest lesson I have learnt over the past years is nothing is more important than health, happiness and people around you. Life is impermanent and unpredictable. And now, as I breathe in at this moment, I'm blessed with health, happiness and wonderful people around me. Life's not so good sometimes but you all make it bearable and good again. Thank you so so much!

May I be well and happy in the years to come.

  1. Such a gorgeous place to enjoy some time outdoors from the hustle and bustle of this life! It sounds amazing for a picnic. These days; my elder brother has a plan to go to east coast trips with his wife and son. I must refer him to explore the beauty of Cherating beach. He must like to visit this because such kind of beach sites always grabs his attention.
